almost*Perfect

As my bachelors level individual project I designed a stand-alone drinks dispenser for making cocktails.

My then part time job at a recently renovated hotel inspired me to choose the theme for this project. Having undergone new training in cocktail making as part of the re-vamped bar, I explored ways in which it could be made easier for those without access to professional training or equipment.

All in one place.

almost*Perfect can hold up to 6 ingredients in the top, and each is assigned a coloured tab by the user. The top compartment can also be filled with ice, meaning all your ingredients are cold before they’re dispensed. Spillage isn’t a problem with the foldable drip tray.

Deal ‘em out.

The ratio instructor cards tell you how to make standard categories of drinks. The colours of the ingredient categories correspond to the tabs on the main unit. From there, you can experiment with what you make.

Interactive design was the main design movement that was employed throughout the project. The purpose of this was to make the product’s usage as similar as the real cocktail making experience as possible. It’s inclusion drove many key decisions, such as using primarily metallic textures, a built in ice well, the interaction with bottles, and its overall “p-gate” shape.

The “P-Gate”.

The “P-Gate” comes from extensive research into the shape cocktail shaker makes when used by professionals. Not only does this gate provide the shape of the product, but the product logo

The name comes from something I found in deep research about the cocktail making process: “It cant always be perfect, you have to practice.”
